DESCRIPTION:Mists (Felton\, CA) \nIt is time once again for the Mists to choose its next Bard! The competition will be on Saturday October 19th in the northern mountains of Car Darth. \nWhat does the Mists Bard do\, you ask? Well\, the Bard serves Their Highnesses for a year\, chronicling the events of the Principality in poem\, story\, and/or song. The Bard also encourages and supports the Bardic arts everywhere\, giving stage to all forms of bardic performances. And of course\, the Bard entertains the populace as representative of the Coronet’s love for arts and sciences. \nAs has become tradition\, there will be five rounds of competition. The categories for the rounds are: \n\nPeriod piece: Perform a piece written before 1600 CE.\nPiece in a period style: An original piece written in any documented style.\nBard’s Choice: A Piece About an Animal: An original piece about any non-mythical\, real world animal.\nMasterwork: A piece that shows off your best abilities\, it does not have to be original.\nThree Words from a Hat: Bards have fifteen minutes to write an original piece including three words drawn from a hat. The populace is encourage to participate in this round as well – we will have plenty of words. For some reason\, this round usually seems to get rather silly…\n\nMistress Rebecca di Firenze and Mistress Elizabeth of Dendermond will be cooking up a 15th-century Italian feast based on the Martino recipes\, as well as the Banquetti tome. There will be an appetizer course\, a pie course\, a main dish course\, and a dessert course. There will be plenty of vegetarian options\, and it will all be scrumptious. Full ingredient lists will be available shortly before the event. \nThe event will be held at the Felton Community Hall in Felton\, California. There are gravel roads around the site area\, but not through it. As long as the site is dry\, we can drive on the pasture\, but there may be ruts to avoid. DESCRIPTION:Newcomers of the lifeblood of our society and this event is designed to welcome and honor them! \nHeavy lists will be one tournament with three categories of victory. Less than one year\, less than two years and War Leader. There will be a melee element that potential War Leader must participate in. The format of the lists will be determined by turn out. \nRapier lists will also be one tournament with three categories of victory. Less than one year\, less than two years and Defender of Southern Shores. Reduced armor experiment kit will be allowed. \nPrizes will be given to the Champions! \nThe War Leader Tournament is open to any heavy fighters\, and will take place in the afternoon. The Champion will receive the title of War Leaser of Southern Shores along with some spiffy regalia and a prize! \nThere will also be a variety of Arts and Sciences activities for newcomers and for those new to an art!We will be posting these soon! \nNo site fee (but donations are welcome)! DESCRIPTION:The Beaconsgate Boar Hunt returns to Camp Herms! We have a shorter day because it is on a Sunday\, but there will be Boar Hunts (Heavy)\, Stag Hunts (Rapier)\, and a feast in the evening. All are welcome\, including children\, as the hunters need dogs to sniff out the prey! \nAs it is in the middle of Hanukkah week we are borrowing a menorah and we encourage those who wish to participate to do so. \nThere is a limit of 80 feast tickets. Chivalric combatants\, challenge your friends to become the next Thug or Shepherd\, or maybe you want to team up with a comrade in arms and try your hand as a two headed troll. Lots of Rapier scenarios will be held too\, for the opportunity to be the next Sharp of the Westermark. Archers can enjoy some novelty shoots and other shoots to find the Hood of the Westermark! Artists can have fun with the pumpkin carving competition and enjoy our A&S class taking place. \nFrom our Arts & Sciences Officer\, Mistress Sabrina de la Bere:\nAs promised I will be teaching a needlelace intro class (8 stitches – 7 of the stitches are used in embroidery as well as lace) at Westermark Madness on Oct 22 (Sunday). More information about the day’s festivities and schedule will be announced as it is made available. \nCompetitions for the day include: \nA&S “Insects”\nIt’s all amount those creepy crawlers! Those many legged or flying\, honey making lovely’s. From decorating your garb or jewels made up from their bodies\, ground into paints and dyes; make a tasty treat\, or teach a class on libations. There so much more to these than one might think.\nA&S “Hoofed”\nWhat can we say about our hard working friends? Let’s see some saddles or spurs!! What tasty treats can be made from the belly’s of some or the skins of others! So many creatures have hooves\, some even mythical! Come out and tell us a tale! \nSilver Spoon\n“My Cup Runneth Over”.
